Flag of Switzerland

Flag of Switzerland

At first glance, you might say that the flag of Switzerland looks like the flag of the Red Cross because it has the exact same design. The only difference is that in the Red Cross flag, the cross is colored red while the background is colored white. On the other hand, the flag of Switzerland has a white cross on the center and the background is colored red. Both flags have the cross but it does not extend to the edges of the flag; it only stays at the center. However, you should know that the flag of Switzerland was adopted since the 1800s. It is also very interesting to note that the flag symbolizes neutrality to all its neighboring countries, as can be experienced during the Second World War whereby Switzerland remained neutral. It did not take sides among the warring countries.

Switzerland was the rest and recreation area among the soldiers of the countries at war during World War II and its flag shows that the white cross at the middle of the flag symbolizes peace and love, while the red color on the background refers to blood or war. People say that the flag can be interpreted this way: that Switzerland prefers to be at peace with its neighbors as it is definitely against bloodshed. Some historians also say that the white cross was actually adopted from the Confederates and dates way back during the 1500s. The country is very rich when it comes to history because it is one of the oldest countries in Europe.
