St Moritz in Engadine Valley

St. Moritz is a major resort town located in Engadine Valley, Switzerland. The highest point here is the Eastern Alpsand, and the Piz Bernina is just a few kilometers from here. The town covers an area of about 178 square kilometers, and the population here is about 5,800.

St. Moritz is a famous and one of world’s oldest winter resorts. Every year there is about 300 days of sunshine here. It is also the place where the “White Turf”, a horse race, is held on the Lake St. Moritz every year and it also attracts the upper class people all over the world.

St. Moritz has also hosted the Winter Olympics in the years 1928 and 1948. The Alpine Skiing World Championships were also held here in the years 1934, 1974 and 2003. It also hosted FIBT Championships about 21 times which is a record.

The glacier scenery is one of the major attractions here. This can be seen by going down from Diavolezza. The Piz Corvatsch measures a height of 3,300 meters high and it consists of a massive ice cave. The major attractions here are Skiing and snowboarding. St. Moritz also features a Segantini Museum that houses the paintings of Giovanni Segantini, a local painter.
