Pearl Harbor

When you say Honolulu, Hawaii people imagine grass skirts, girls doing the hula, and sunny days at the beach. But there is a part of this state that can instantly bring out emotions and memories of one of the saddest events in American history that had a great impact not only on the Americans but also on people all over the world. This isPearl Harbor.

Who can ever forget the bombing of this World War II American Military Base in Hawaii on the bright morning of December 7, 1941? It was a Sunday when the Japanese troops decided to carry out their plan of hitting Pearl Harbor in their effort to conquer the rest of the world. The US Pacific feet, which was docked at the harbor, was one of the biggest casualties of the US on that fateful day. American soldiers perished leaving behind their families and causing the country to finally join the war against the Axis Powers

Today more than sixty years after the attack Pearl Harbor still remains in the heart of many as a site where many American heroes were born. All the Japanese planes and soldiers may have left and the war may have ended, but Pearl Harbor has definitely made its mark in history. It has become a memorial site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hawaii through the years.

In 2001, an award-winning film about the bombing of Pearl Harbor was made. It starred Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett and Kate Beckinsdale. Even though the film focused more on the love story of the main characters, it was able to provide some accounts of what had happened in the harbor in December 1941.
Just watching a film, mo matter how accurate it may be, is simply not enough if you really want to experience the magnificence of a historical place. Visit Hawaii now and see Pearl Harbor for yourself.
