Darjeeling City in West Bengal

Darjeeling, a town distinguished as “queen of hills” is located in West Bengal, which is in the north eastern part of India. It is one of the most desired hill stations of India. The name is derived for its old name “Dorje Ling” which means “place of thunderbolt” and it was given the name after the creation of a shrine on its hilltop. Not only is it famous for its never ending beauty and fresh air, it is also renowned for the export of high quality tea in the world. The total area of this beautiful land is about 11 square kilometer with a population of 75,000 people.

Darjeeling is the holy place for both Hindus and Buddhists of the city. Tiger hill, a hill with a height of 2,600 meters, is the tallest hill in Darjeeling. It is visited by most visitors because it offers a perfect view of Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world. Kanchenjunga is a beautiful hill station surrounded by many mountains and hills with chilled atmosphere due to which it is considered as summer capital. After cold and summer season, there comes the spring season which is a blessing from the gods. During this period, this town enjoys its first season. Ghoom is the major landmarks in Darjeeling along with the museum of natural history. The museum is comprised of a fine collection of Himalayan animals, reptiles, and birds. The most impressive experience is the Drajeeling-Rangit ropeway, Asia’s largest rope way and it should not be missed if one plans a visit. When it comes to the shopping point of view, crafts like carpets, wood, and leatherwork can be bought from Tibetan refugee self help center; where one can get the best of items. Trekking has been one of the most famous events which are conducted in both high and low altitude areas along with availability of trekking equipment.
