Being the bridge between North and South America, Central America comprises of seven tropical countries namely Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, whose way of living is less affluent than North Mexico. Contrary to popular belief, it is much easier to travel by bus than by plane in this region. English is widely used in this region, so you don’t have to fret about conversing. Money used is the U.S dollar; however, the ATMs around some countries do not work as efficiently. It is wise to bring your own cash, but keep yourself safe as crime is high especially in El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. Be hygienic and stay safe; toilets aren’t always available and the water supply is unsteady. Dress simply to keep attention away from you.
In getting around, the Tica Bus is highly recommended if you want to go cross-country except in Belize. Stay away from the Darien Gap if you still value your life. Now, what to experience during your vacation in Central America? For starters, you can visit the Cloud Forest in Panama which is lined with many hotels you can stay into. National Parks are abundant, so pay them a visit and appreciate the rare flora and fauna found here. The beaches in Mexico are close to the beaches of the Carribean, so enjoy surfing especially on the beaches of Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Panama. If you dig history, you should not miss the ancient Maya ruins located in El Salvador, Belize, Honduras and Guatemala or the colonial towns namely: Antigua Guatemala, Quetzaltenango, Gracias and Comayagua, León and Granada (the oldest colonial city in the Western Hemisphere) or Panama City, San Blas Islands. If you want to be one with nature, Lake Atitlan in Guatemala and its surrounding volcanoes until the southern border is said to be the most scenic volcanic lake in the world. Culture speaks for itself in Central America, and it is best captured when you go see these treasures with your own eyes.
