Georgia

Georgia

This country situated in the Caucasus Region of Eurasia, particularly where Eastern Europe and Western Asia meet, used to be called the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. It is bordered by the Black Sea, Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan. In terms of population and land area, this small country is 69,700 square kilometers with 4.3 million inhabitants.

Despite its limited land area, Georgia has a lot of attractions to offer to tourists. The country is cramped with ancient quaint churches, old watchtowers and grand castles in the midst of a breathtaking mountain backdrop. Everything in Georgia seems to have been lovingly crafted by hand, except those towns that were mainly built by the Soviet Union.
In the past, Georgia’s tourism industry has been the victim of civil unrest and economic instability. But the country has been slowly recovering and discovering the potential of the tourism industry. It has since been working on security issues and opening its attractions to tourists from all over the world. Getting around the country is also easier, either by foot, in a vehicle or even by horse.

For those that are planning to visit Georgia, it is advisable that you seek the latest travel advisory before you book a flight. The conflict with Russia, specifically in the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia has made travel potentially dangerous.

Should you decide to make the trip, however, don’t miss the Caucasus mountain towns of Svaneti and Kazbegi, as well as the Black Sea coastal town of Batumi. All these are dramatically represent Georgia’s untapped natural beauty.
